PHILOSOPHY: For an actor, aspiring writer or director this is an avenue to a small boutique film school. Develop material in a safe and process oriented environment where creativity is nurtured. It’s perfect if you want to experiment or build upon your existing craft. You may work on a short film, feature or any other genre and expand upon your cinematic language. This is a creative community that helps your artistic pursuits grow and blossom!
SCREENWRITING: This workshop is ideal for actors, writers or anyone who wants to start or continue to develop their writing techniques. Material covered will include choosing the right idea for the format, how to take a cliché idea and make it original and obtain tools and formulae to help you develop the craft of screenwriting. How can you showcase yourself in the industry without a great calling card? Ignite your imagination and creativity and become an active protagonist in your own career. Start writing and learn new ways to embrace the cinematic language of storytelling.
FILM DIRECTING: This workshop is ideal for actors, writers or corporate people who want to get creative. Material covered will include how to develop a point of view, learning the visual language of cinema and the technical tools and craft it takes to direct a film. We will look at film clips and analyze material in addition to covering 180 degree rule and elements that come together to shape the principles of directing.
Imelda O’Reilly is a writer, director, and Arts Professor. She has worked as a script consultant and her students have won many awards at international film festivals. She was a commissioned writer on Song For New York which was work shopped at the Sundance Theater Lab. Her screenplay was a finalist for the Sundance Writers Lab and her film was a Student Academy Nominee. She is a graduate of the Columbia University Film Program. She is currently developing three feature scripts. She was an Assistant Arts Professor for NYU’s graduate film program in Singapore. Prior to NYU she taught at Barnard College, Hunter College and the School for Visual Arts.
